WhatsApp has been working on a lot of new features recently, and there are more coming soon. The Meta-owned platform will soon let users tag other accounts in Status, WhatsApp’s Stories-like feature.
Updates coming to WhatsApp Status
For those unfamiliar, WhatsApp Status work in a similar way to Instagram Stories. Users can share temporary photos and videos to those who have their phone number. These media are available for 24 hours and disappear after that.
With the update, users can now mention and tag other WhatsApp accounts in their Status. As a result, the people mentioned can repost that Status to their account. WhatsApp says that up to five users can be mentioned in each Status, and users have the option of tagging someone without explicitly showing their names.
WhatsApp is also bringing likes to Status, so that friends can reply to updates with just one tap. The feature feels more like Instagram Stories than ever before.
“WhatsApp Status is the best way to stay connected with friends and family and now we’re making it even better. With status likes, private mentions and the ability to reshare a status you’re mentioned in, we’re making it easier to reach the people who matter most,” the company said in a blog post.
More about the app
A few weeks ago, WhatsApp also announced improvements to the Channels feature. With the update, users can now find new Channels to follow by category. These categories include People, Organizations, Lifestyle, Sports, Entertainment, Businesses, and News & Information. The platform also recently introduced new filters and backgrounds for video calls.
As for the new WhatsApp Status features, they’re now being rolled out to users around the world.
WhatsApp for iPhone and Mac is available for free on the App Store. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed in order to get access to the new features.
