Sony's subsidiary Aniplex Inc. has made Resident Evil: Survival Unit available for pre-order on the App Store, ahead of its release. Way ahead, as it turns out. Here are the details.
Pre-order now, get it… December 31 (but likely before that)
Earlier this month, developer Aniplex announced Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a new mobile strategy game for iOS and Android set in the iconic zombie-infested universe that spans nearly three decades of console and PC games, multiple remakes, and several film and TV adaptations.
At the time of the announcement, the only details made available were that Resident Evil: Survival Unit was in development, and aiming for a late 2025 release.
Now, following a YouTube broadcast event, we have a clearer picture: the game takes place in a parallel storyline during the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, and its launch date is slated for December 31, although there is a big chance the date is a placeholder.
Familiar characters, new dynamics
Developed by JOYCITY and overseen by longtime series producer Masachika Kawata, the game shifts Resident Evil into full-blown strategy territory for the first time. Users will need to gather resources, explore dangerous zones, and lead iconic characters like Leon, Jill, Claire, and Carlos through tactical battles with limited supplies.
Here's what executive producer Shinji Hashimoto, best known for his decades at Square Enix, had to say during the YouTube stream about the choice for this format:
“We felt that the game's unique ‘survival element' of surviving with only limited resources fits very well with strategy games. Because of that, we chose the strategy genre that allows players worldwide to enjoy the world of Resident Evil from a different perspective.”
In addition to pre-ordering the game on the App Store and Google Play, you can also register on the game's website to get more information.
